Fur History
In China the dogs and cats that are killed for their fur are generally raised on farms, most in Northern China. These animals are raised only for the furs that they can sell to the fur industry. The dogs are usually kept outside in the cold so that their fur will grow thicker. They are then killed at the beginning of the winter and sold to fur traders. These dogs and cats are either raised for the fur or can be strays and can sometimes be stolen pets. On some of the larger farms up to three hundred dogs are kept at one time under horrible conditions. In Harbin investigators have witnessed dogs being kept in dark pens with no heat. These dogs are starving and under nourished and alot of them are sick and have diseases such as distemper, parvo virus, and eptospirosis. The dogs are so weak that disease spreads through them like wild fire. Witnesses have seen dogs jammed into sacks and driven to slaughterhouses that can take up to six hours without food or water.
These dogs suffer and are treated horriably before they reach the slaughter house. Even puppies are killed and not spared. Many of the dogs are already dead when they arrive at the slaughter houses.
