Would your Dog Choose You?
Let’s not be surprised if the tables were turned and your dog went down to the human shop looking for a new master, would he choose you?
What appeals to people about different breeds of dogs?
Do we look at a dog and think ‘what a cute pup’ or ’what an adorable dog?’
So what would a dog think of you when he went down to the human shop and saw you?
There are probable three things that a dog would look for in you.
Number 1: Are you a person who can commit yourself to a pet?
A dog commits himself or herself to an owner, so I think they would expect the same. Your dog, if given the choice, would be with you 24/7. All dogs thrive on company and dedication of their owners.
Of course it’s impractical to be with your dog all the time so quality time is a must when you’re together. There’s nothing like the bond shown when master and dog meet each other after a time apart.
Number 2: Do you give your dog the affection and passion it needs?
Look at it this way, do you other things you are interested in and passionate about all of them? Well no, of course not. There are always things that bring different degrees of passion. Maybe you just want a dog around the house for a guard or for the children to play with. All dogs want to be part of the family and not only a pet stuck outside in the yard to fend for itself. Any dog has unlimited affection for their owners and for anytime spent with it will be repaid many times. Of course different dog breeds have different requirements and needs. A lot of dogs require training where as some just like to play.
Number 3: Do you want envious neighbours?
Want to make your neighbours jealous, then with the correct attitude and training your dog could be admired amongst a lot of other dogs who are either spoilt or just left to roam the streets. Would you ignore your kids? Would you let your kids run wild? Well think of your dog as part of the family and share your affection of your family with your pet.
So if your dog were in the human shop would it be able to judge these three things just by looking at you?
No, just the same as you’re at the pet shop looking at a potential pet. It’s something that has to be worked at. You acquire each other as strangers so it’s through a loving and dedicated relationship that you grow to love each other. Like marriage, it has to be worked at. Like marriage there will be ups and downs but as long as you’re still there for each other at the end of the day, the human – dog relationship will work.
So in conclusion with some dedication a dog is a worthwhile partner, and a partner for life.
